If you want a relaxed afternoon that feels nothing like the Old Quarter, Vinhomes Ocean Park (Ocean Park 1) in eastern Hanoi is an easy motorbike trip: Pearl Lake with its sandy shore, a saltwater lagoon, a shopping centre and plenty of greenery. According to VinWonders (29 July 2025), entry to the urban area is free and you only pay for the services you use. This guide suggests a half-day timetable, a morning alternative, how to use the internal bus and what to watch for on the ride back.
The plan builds on two more detailed guides: riding to Vinhomes Ocean Park by motorbike (note especially that motorbikes may not use the Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway or Thanh Trì Bridge) and where to park at Vinhomes Ocean Park.

What to know before you go
According to VinWonders, Pearl Lake covers about 24.5 ha with a sandy shore up to 35 m wide, and the urban area has more than 100 ha of greenery, several barbecue areas and sports facilities. Some services keep their own hours: the kayak dock operates 9:00–12:00 and 14:00–17:00, the barbecue garden 10:00–21:30 with 24-hour advance booking, and the free fishing pier 8:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00, also bookable in advance. Prices can change, so check before using any service.
On a motorbike, the way there is across Chương Dương, Vĩnh Tuy or Long Biên Bridge and then along old National Road 5. Motorbikes may not use the Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway or Thanh Trì Bridge, so keep your map app in motorbike mode.
The itinerary step by step
Leaving the Old Quarter (around 14:00)
Check tyres, brakes, lights and fuel before you go. If you are renting, see our guide to checking the fuel level at pickup. Setting off in the early afternoon avoids the morning rush and gets you there as the sun starts to soften. Old National Road 5 carries many trucks, so stay in the mixed-traffic lane and keep your distance.
Parking at OCP (around 14:45)
According to VinWonders, the free OCP1 internal bus runs 5:00–22:30, about every 10 minutes, starting and ending at the OCP parking point. Parking here and using the bus between stops saves you from moving your bike between several lots. Ask the price and closing time, keep your ticket and photograph it with your number plate.
Pearl Lake (15:00–16:00)
Stroll along the sandy shore and the wide expanse of water. If you fancy some exercise, you can rent a kayak in the 14:00–17:00 slot listed by VinWonders. Wear a life jacket as instructed, keep your phone in a waterproof pouch and stay within the permitted area.
Saltwater lagoon (16:00–16:45)
The saltwater lagoon has a man-made sandy beach where many families come in the late afternoon. Wear footwear suitable for sand, keep an eye on young children and follow the signs about where you may enter the water.
Vincom Mega Mall (16:45–17:30)
Take a break in Vincom Mega Mall Ocean Park with a coffee or a snack and escape the late sun. If it rains, the mall is also a good fallback for the outdoor activities.
Sunset by the lake (17:30–18:15)
Head back to the lakeside for the sunset. This is the most pleasant time of day, with a cool breeze and soft light for photos. Keep an eye on the time so you catch an internal bus back to the OCP point.
Dinner and the ride back (after 18:30)
Have dinner in the urban area, then collect your bike at OCP. Leaving after about 19:00 usually avoids the evening rush on National Road 5 and the bridges. Check your lights before setting off, ride more slowly than in daylight and keep right, as trucks still run in the evening.
A morning alternative
If you prefer mornings, leave around 8:00 to arrive before 9:00. You can try the fishing pier at Pearl Lake (8:00–12:00, book in advance according to VinWonders) or kayak in the 9:00–12:00 slot. Then continue to the nearby gold-leaf village of Kiêu Kỵ; according to Báo Pháp luật Việt Nam (25 June 2021), its craft is more than 300 years old and recognised as national intangible cultural heritage. Have lunch and ride back before the heat peaks. See our guide on riding to Gia Lâm by motorbike if you want to add more stops in the area.
Ways to adapt the plan
With children: prioritise the beach and play areas and shorten the mall. Bring hats, water, sunscreen and a change of clothes.
With friends: book the barbecue garden in advance (10:00–21:30, 24 hours’ notice according to VinWonders) and finish with a lakeside barbecue.
Rainy day: spend most of the time in the mall and head to the lake only when the rain eases.
Continuing to Ocean City: according to VinWonders, Grand World is in Nghĩa Trụ commune, Hưng Yên province, open 24/7 with free entry, with an 830 m Venice-style canal and the Grand Voyage show. Because it lies outside Hanoi, check with your rental company first if you are on a rented bike; it works better as a separate trip than as part of this half day.
Using the internal bus well
According to VinWonders, the free OCP1 bus runs one way only on a loop of about 8 km that takes roughly 35 minutes. If you miss your stop, you will have to ride the whole loop again, so check the stops before boarding, get off at the right one and plan your return to the OCP parking point in good time, especially in the evening. With children or heavy shopping bags the bus is a real help, because you do not have to move the bike between the beach, the lake and the mall and park it again each time.
Photos and etiquette
Ocean Park is a residential area where many families live. Photograph people only with their permission, especially children on the beach, and keep the lakeside paths clear. Leave no litter on the sand and use the bins. Only fly a drone if you are sure it is allowed; if in doubt, ask the security staff first.
Riding back safely
After a long afternoon in the sun and wind, you are more tired than you think. Drink enough before setting off, take a short break and check your lights, brakes and mirrors. On National Road 5 at night, truck headlights can dazzle you, so slow down, keep right and look carefully at junctions. If you are riding as a pair, take turns keeping each other alert. If you feel too tired or the rain is heavy, rest a little longer in the mall; arriving a bit later is far better than riding with poor visibility.
Notes for rental bikes
Ask in advance about the rental company’s roadside support coverage: whether the bike may cross to the east bank, whether it may go to Hưng Yên and whom to call if it breaks down on National Road 5. Photograph the bike’s condition at pickup and when parking at OCP.
When the weather turns
The lake area is open, so sun and wind are stronger than in town. In summer, avoid being outdoors between 12:00 and 14:00, and carry water and sunscreen. In winter, the lake breeze turns chilly in the evening, so bring a warm layer for the ride home. In heavy rain, stay in the mall until it eases.
What to pack
- A helmet with the strap fastened, a valid licence and the bike’s papers.
- A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and water.
- Sandals for the sand and a waterproof pouch for your phone.
- A light jacket or warm layer for the evening ride.
- Small banknotes for parking.

After about 19:00 to avoid the rush on National Road 5, or before 16:30 if you would rather not ride in the evening.

Renting a motorbike from Mr Tú
If you would like to explore Hanoi at your own pace, Mr Tú rents out automatic scooters and semi-automatic motorbikes near the Old Quarter, by the day, the week or the month. See our page on motorbike rental near the Old Quarter or contact Mr Tú to ask about availability, the documents you need, where the bike may be ridden and the current rental conditions before you set off.
In short: half a day at Vinhomes Ocean Park works best from the early afternoon: park at OCP, take the internal bus to Pearl Lake and the saltwater lagoon, rest at Vincom Mega Mall and finish with the sunset by the lake. Take old National Road 5, never the expressway, head home after the rush and ride carefully in the evening.
