What to expect when you rent with Mr Tú

A clear process

Choose a bike, call us, confirm the details, check the bike together and ride. At every step you know what comes next.

Price and deposit confirmed first

The rental price and the deposit are two separate amounts, and Mr Tú confirms both before anything is agreed. The figures you accept are the ones written in your agreement.

A day, a week or a month

Rent for a day out, a week of exploring or a month of everyday riding while you live in Hanoi.

Close to the Old Quarter

Mr Tú is near the Old Quarter (Phố Cổ), next to Hoan Kiem. We answer by phone and arrange the hand-over time and place when you call.

Automatic scooters and semi-automatic motorbikes

An automatic scooter has no gears to think about, which makes it the easier choice in Hanoi’s stop-and-go traffic. A semi-automatic has foot-operated gears but no clutch lever, and suits riders who have handled one before. These are the models Mr Tú currently lists:

Not sure which to pick? Compare how each one rides and who it suits on our scooters and motorbikes page, or simply ask when you call.

Rental prices and the deposit

You pay for the time you keep the bike, and you leave a deposit that comes back to you under your agreement when the bike is returned. These are two separate amounts. The deposit varies by model, and Mr Tú tells you the figure before you book.

Prices on request

Contact Mr Tú to confirm a quote for your vehicle and rental dates.

Ask for a quote for your exact rental period before comparing options. For what each rate covers, how the deposit is refunded and running costs such as fuel and parking, see Hanoi motorbike rental prices.

Start your Hanoi rides from the Old Quarter

Think of the Old Quarter as your kilometre zero. Hanoi’s old merchant district sits beside Hoan Kiem Lake, and from its edge you can reach the lakeside cafés of Tay Ho, the boulevards of the French Quarter or the dyke road along the Red River without crossing the whole city first.

Riding in the centre takes patience rather than speed. Lanes are narrow, many streets are one-way and traffic moves as one steady stream, so plan your first ride for a quiet time of day. Our guide to motorbike rental in Hanoi has more habits that help you ride safely.

Because Mr Tú is close by, collecting and returning your bike doesn’t mean a trip across town. Call ahead and we’ll arrange the hand-over time and place. Parking, the weekend walking street and routes out of the centre are covered on our page about motorbike rental near Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

How renting works, in five steps

  1. Choose — Pick a model and your dates. If you’re unsure, tell us how you plan to ride and we’ll suggest a bike.
  2. Contact — Call Mr Tú with the model, your dates and the number of riders. We check availability for you.
  3. Confirm documents and deposit — Mr Tú confirms the price, the deposit, the documents to bring and the hand-over details. Nothing is booked until you agree.
  4. Inspect and ride — We check the bike together (brakes, tyres, lights, horn, mirrors and fuel level), photograph its condition and sign the written agreement. Then the road is yours.
  5. Return — Bring the bike back when and where we agreed. Once we have checked it together, your deposit is refunded as the agreement sets out.

The practical details, up front

Documents

Confirm the identity and driving-licence documents required for your booking and how they will be checked. UK government travel advice recommends against using a passport as a vehicle-rental deposit; discuss the actual deposit arrangement with Mr Tú before agreeing.

Deposit

Set per model and kept apart from the rental price. Its amount and form, such as cash, are agreed before you book.

Licence and helmets

Bikes over 50 cc need a motorcycle licence: a Vietnamese A1 or A, or your national licence plus an IDP issued under the 1968 Convention. Rider and passenger must both wear a helmet.

Agreed in writing

Your agreement records the price, deposit, rental period, the bike’s condition and fuel level, and any extra costs you agreed. If it matters to you, it belongs on paper.

Licence rules are summarised as of October 2026. This is general information, not legal advice; you’ll find the details in our guide on how to rent a motorbike in Hanoi.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ride with the licence from my home country?

Only if it covers motorcycles and you carry it together with an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention. A Vietnamese A1 or A licence also works, but a car-only licence does not.

Do you keep my passport?

UK government travel advice recommends against leaving a passport as a vehicle-rental deposit. Confirm how Mr Tú checks documents and what lawful deposit arrangement applies before booking. The website does not establish an unverified deposit method.

Do I need riding experience?

Yes. Come to Hanoi’s traffic as a confident rider with the right licence, not as a learner. If you are new to Vietnam’s roads, an automatic scooter and a first ride at a quiet hour make the start much easier.

Can I rent a motorbike by the month?

Yes. Mr Tú rents by the day, week or month, and a monthly rental suits a longer stay in Hanoi. Contact Mr Tú to confirm the total price for your dates.

How do I book a bike?

Call Mr Tú with the model you’d like, your dates and the number of riders. We confirm availability, price, deposit and hand-over details, and your booking stands once you agree to them.

Ready to ride? Contact Mr Tú

Call to check a bike for your dates. Tell us the model you’d like, how long you need it, how many riders there are and roughly where you’re staying near the Old Quarter, and we’ll confirm the rest.
