Parking a motorbike at Trịnh Công Sơn Walking Street is easy if you settle three things in advance: which side you will enter from, whether an event is on, and which parking point has an attendant and issues tickets.

The area lies in Nhật Tân on the northern side of West Lake, between lane 612 Lạc Long Quân and lane 431 Âu Cơ, beside the lotus ponds and Hồ Tây Water Park. When pedestrian activities are running, motorbikes usually have to be parked outside, and on the Âu Cơ side stopping and parking are banned on both sides of the road. This guide helps you choose the right spot, know the costs and avoid common mistakes.

Understand the area before looking for parking

According to Tiền Phong newspaper (2017), the Trịnh Công Sơn pedestrian space covers Trịnh Công Sơn street plus part of lane 431 Âu Cơ and lane 612 Lạc Long Quân; when it opened, a parking area was set up just outside before the entrance. Its format has changed several times since: paused, reopened in 2022, paused again in early 2023 and, according to press reports from late 2023, turned into a creative cultural space open at weekends (Tiền Phong).

This directly affects parking. On event days there is usually parking for visitors and some roads may be closed to vehicles; on ordinary days you find your own spot at a venue or a parking point nearby. If you are not sure of the way, read our guide to getting to Trịnh Công Sơn Walking Street by motorbike first.

Sensible parking options

1. Event parking

When there is a weekend event, organisers or local authorities usually set up parking outside the pedestrian area. This is the preferred option because it is close to the entrance and in an approved location. Follow the signs, ask the price and take a ticket before leaving your bike.

2. The lane 612 Lạc Long Quân side

The Lạc Long Quân side is usually easier to reach by motorbike because you avoid Âu Cơ’s one-way service road. Around the area you may find ticketed parking points or cafés and restaurants with parking for customers. We do not list specific addresses because these change; on arrival, check the signs and ask in person.

3. Parking at the café or restaurant you visit

If you are eating or drinking nearby, you can park at the venue. Ask beforehand until what time bikes are watched, whether there is a separate charge and whether you get a tag. Note that some places close earlier than events finish.

4. The Âu Cơ side: park inside the lane, never on the service road

Under the traffic plan in force since 22 September 2024, reported by a Vietnamese legal news site, stopping and parking are banned on both sides of Âu Cơ, including both service roads, and part of the inside-dyke service road is one-way. If you come in via lane 431 from Âu Cơ, ride in the permitted direction and only park at a legitimate parking point inside the area, never on the service road. Parking fees: know before you go

According to VnExpress, from 15 October 2026 the motorbike fee at state-funded on-street and pavement parking points in Hanoi rose from 5,000 to 10,000 VND per visit. That rate applies to that type of point; event parking, private lots or cafés may charge a different amount or nothing for customers.

  • Ask the price before leaving your bike, especially on weekend evenings and holidays.
  • Carry small cash notes, as not every attendant accepts transfers.
  • Always take a ticket or tag and keep it until you collect your bike.
  • If a charge seems unusual, you can decline and look for another spot.

How to recognise a trustworthy parking point

  • Tickets or tags: with your plate, a number or the time to avoid mix-ups.
  • A real attendant: not an unmanaged patch of roadside.
  • A legal location: not under a no-parking sign, not on the roadway, not blocking a lane entrance or emergency exit.
  • Clear closing time: especially if you stay until the end of a programme.
  • A safe surface: flat, well lit and not prone to flooding.

A five-step parking routine

  1. Before you leave: check local announcements to see whether there is an event that weekend and at what time.
  2. On the approach: choose your entrance (usually the Lạc Long Quân side), ride slowly and follow the parking signs.
  3. At the parking point: ask the price and closing time, take the ticket and lock the steering.
  4. Before walking away: photograph your bike’s position and the ticket, and note a nearby landmark.
  5. When collecting: check the bike before paying, then pull out slowly and give way to pedestrians.

Protecting your bike and belongings

  • Lock the steering and take the key; add a disc lock if you have one.
  • Do not leave your phone, wallet or documents under the seat or in the basket.
  • Take your helmet with you or lock it to the hook if the bike has one.
  • With a rented bike, ask the rental company beforehand who is responsible if it is stolen or damaged while parked, and keep the parking ticket as proof.

Situations to watch for

Busy event evenings

Parking near the entrance can fill up quickly. Arrive before the start time, accept parking a little further away and walk. When leaving, many people collect their bikes at the same time, so be patient and do not push in.

Lotus season mornings

If you come early to see the lotus, many cafés are still closed. Find out in advance which parking point operates at that hour and do not leave your bike at the roadside around the ponds.

Rain

Choose a spot that does not flood, ideally under a roof. Lakeside roads are slippery, so ride slowly in and out of the parking area.

Parking options compared

Option Advantages Drawbacks What to check
Event parking Close to the entrance, approved location Only on event days, fills up Signs, price, ticket
Parking point on the Lạc Long Quân side Easy access, no need to use Âu Cơ Can be full on weekend evenings Signs, closing time
Café or restaurant parking Attended, combine with a meal Customers only, may close early Hours, tag
Inside the lane on the Âu Cơ side Close if you ride the dyke road Must follow the one-way service road Legal spot, not on the service road
On the Âu Cơ service road None Illegal and dangerous Never choose this

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving the bike at the edge of the road around the lotus ponds for a quick photo.
  • Parking on the Âu Cơ service road “just for a few minutes”.
  • Parking without a ticket and having nothing to show when collecting the bike.
  • Not asking the closing time and finding the point shut when you stay late.
  • Riding the wrong way on the service road to reach the lane faster.

Good to know for rented bikes

If you are riding a rented scooter, take a quick look at your rental agreement before setting off: does it say anything about parking, theft or traffic fines? If in doubt, ask the rental company directly. Keep every parking ticket until you return the bike, because it shows you left it at an attended point. And if you are unsure whether a spot is allowed, use a simple rule of thumb: no attendant and no ticket means you should keep looking.

Planning your evening around parking

On event nights, the smoothest approach is to arrive early, park once and stay on foot for the rest of the evening. Walk between the lotus ponds, the stalls and any nearby café rather than moving your bike from spot to spot, which only adds risk and cost. If you plan to continue to West Lake or another area afterwards, collect your bike before the crowd leaves, or wait until the rush has eased, so you are not squeezing out of a full parking area in the dark.
